As you know, we love watches. In fact, these last few months, we went on a little editorial world tour, looking for the most beautiful timepieces -from the most conservative to the most minimalist, from traditional retail stores to Kickstarter and from Switzerland to Singapore. Yet, last month, the tour took us back to Paris, where we were invited to preview Baume & Mercier‘s latest men’s collection.
The Swiss brand -which has been around since 1830- just launched their Clifton Club series, a collection that celebrates traditional watchmaking and the values of sports. The idea of the new line is to offer the perfect watch to sporty gentlemen or, like the designers like to put it, today’s gentlesportsmen: those men who like to sweat in style, who exercise for fun and to bond with their friends.
The collection comprises five watches -featured in the below video- which are as many variations on a single theme: a stainless steel case with a round opening and a well-balanced diameter of 42 mm, a thickness of 10.3 mm, white and orange dials, and an extremely precise automatic movement, water resistant at 100 meters.
The five watches have different finishes and types of strap but they all have the same color code: black, white, blue and orange, which prevents them from being either too businessy or sporty. Instead they are truly versatile and hybrid pieces that are suitable to wear to work, on the weekend and while exercising.
Our favorite wristwatch is the Clifton Club 10338, which we photographed for you. We decided to shoot that one specifically because we love the contrast between the black face, the steel case and the subtle orange details, which give it a relaxed and sporty look. But above all, we felt that it was the one watch the truly represents the concept and that caters most perfectly to the gentlesportsman.
What do you think of the collection’s concept? And which watch is your favorite? As always, let us know on social media (@leclubdesdouze).
